While Sinulog marks a series of loud celebrations and dancing, it is first and foremost a religious event. Iconography of ‘Saint Nino’ is everywhere, and Catholic priests can be found in every parade, procession and presentation that comprises the two-week long event. At times there are so many processions occurring at the same time that the incense smoke from thuribles like these can be mistaken for small fires across the city.
